On March 8, Chinese Consul General in San Francisco Wang Donghua hosted a reception in his residence in honor of some of the Californian friends who have visited China over the last 20 years. California's Treasurer Fiona Ma, Rep. Marc Levine, Rep. Kansen Chu, former California Senate minority leader Bob Huff, former California Assembly minority leader Kristin Olsen and about 30 other politicians attended the reception.

In his speech, Wang said "this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. Over the past 40 years, China-US relations have achieved historical developments despite ups and downs, and have delivered enormous benefits to our two peoples, making important contributions to world peace, stability and prosperity."

Wang pointed out that it was not surprising to see competition between China and the US, but this type of competition should be positive and benign instead of zero-sum. "As long as the two countries remain open to each other and strengthen connectivity, we can share more opportunities on the basis of complementary advantages to achieve common development and prosperity" he said.

Wang also expressed Chinese Consulate General's willingness to work together with people from all over California to strengthen the exchanges and cooperation between California and China, for the long-term healthy and sound development of China-US relations, and for the ever-lasting friendship between the two peoples.

The guests appreciated Wang's hospitality and shared their stories about China. They all agreed to further promote sub-national cooperation between California and China.
