Eleven days into his new post, Yuan Nansheng, the Chinese Consul General in San Francisco, gave a reception for the Bay Area Chinese Media at his residence on the evening of April 18. Representatives and reporters from over 20 Chinese media were present.

"San Francisco is well-known for her most pleasant climate. Not only that. As a city with highest Chinese American population, the city proudly boasts many "firsts" in the China-US relationship, including witnessing the first major waves of Chinese immigrants, the establishment of China's first Consulate General in America, the earliest recognition of China's major country status, the first China-U.S sister city relationship, the launch of the first direct flight to China, and the sworn-in of the first Chinese-American mayor of a major US city. " Consul General Yuan said.
"In this context, I feel so privileged and honored to serve as the 11th Chinese Consul General in San Francisco and be part of our common endeavor to building cooperative relationship based on mutual respect and mutual benefit and exploring a new type of major country relationship between China and the Unites States. During my term here, I will build on what my predecessors have achieved in broadening and deepening the friendly cooperation between China and the San Francisco consular district, strengthening our people-to-people ties and protecting the legitimate interests of the Chinese citizens in this district." He said.
"Media can play a big role in bringing our two countries and people closer. My consulate stands ready to work with you to make that happen". He said to the reporters.

Consul General Yuan also answered questions about the China-US relations, overseas Chinese, and the Consulate's priorities, etc.
