On September 27, 2013, a grand reception celebrating the 64th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China hosted by Consul General Yuan Nansheng was held at the Hilton Hotel in San Francisco. Over 1000 guests from Chinese communities, businesses, students and all walks of life in the Bay Area attended the event.

San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee, California State Senator Leland Yee, San Francisco Supervisors Eric Mar and Norman Yee, Assessor-Recorder Carmen Chu, Alameda Council-members Lena Tam and Stewart Chen, San Leandro Council-member Benny Lee were present. California Governor Jerry Brown, U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Congressman Eric Swalwell, California State Senator Mark Leno, Assembly-member Phil Ting, Hayward Mayor Michael Sweeny and other politicians expressed their congratulations in different ways.

Consul General Yuan introduced the remarkable achievements made by the Chinese people during the past 64 years. "The new leadership is now leading the Chinese people to realize the Chinese Dream which aims at a strong and prosperous China, the revival of the Chinese nation, and a contented life for the Chinese people", said Consul General Yuan, "the China-U.S. relationship has been enjoying stable and strong momentum, and both sides are committed to building a new type of major-country relations. The bilateral exchange and cooperation between China and the states in the jurisdiction of the Chinese Consulate has been accelerated, continuously injecting 'positive energy' to China-U.S. relations."

Yuan commended the passion, faith and love of the Chinese compatriots to the motherland he had felt in person during his 176 days in S.F.. He encouraged the Chinese Communities to join hands and make greater contributions to the stable development of China-U.S. relations, the reunification of China and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee spoke highly of the U.S.-China relationship as the most important bilateral relations in the world. He hoped his second visit to China as San Francisco Mayor would further strengthen the economic, cultural and educational ties between the city and China, especially enhancing the sister-city relationship between S.F. and Shanghai. California State Senator Leland Yee said overseas Chinese in California should always bear in mind their "roots in China" and work for closer relationship between the state of California and China.
