Chinese President Exchanges Congratulatory Messages with Bulgarian, Romanian Counterparts on 60th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations
2009/10/04

On October 4, 2009, Chinese President Hu Jintao exchanged messages of congratulation with his Bulgarian counterpart Georgi Parvanov and Romanian counterpart Traian Basescu to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between their countries.

In the message to Parvanov, Hu said the past 60 years had witnessed sincere respect, friendly cooperation, as well as ever-strengthening and ever-deepening traditional friendship between the two countries. It had been proved that strengthening relations on the basis of long-term stability, equality and mutual benefit served the fundamental interests of the two countries and their peoples, and would be conducive to regional peace and development, he said. China would join hands with Bulgaria to reinforce exchanges, expand cooperation and open up a better future for bilateral ties, Hu said in the message.

In the messages to Basescu, President Hu said that, during the past 60 years, despite great changes in the two countries and in the international situation, China-Romania relations had maintained healthy and steady development. In 2004, China and Romania established all-round friendly cooperative partnership which brought vitality and energy to the bilateral ties in the new century, Hu said. Standing at a new historical starting point, China hoped to work with Romania on further enhancing traditional friendship and promoting the all-round friendly cooperative relations for the benefit of the two countries and the two peoples, he added.

President Parvanov said Bulgaria cherished the 60-year traditional friendship between the two countries and attached great importance to developing the all-round cooperative partnership with China. In August 2008, the two presidents met in Beijing, which Parvanov believed had yielded fruitful results. Parvanov expected to make joint efforts with President Hu on enriching bilateral cooperation in all fields and promoting healthy and steady development of bilateral ties in the long run.

Romanian President Basescu said the traditional friendship between the two nations had strengthened and become mature since they forged diplomatic relations 60 years ago. It was the great treasure of the two peoples. He reiterated that the Romanian government had made it one of its top priorities in diplomatic policies to strengthen the all-round friendly cooperative relations with China. Romania hoped to increase high-level contacts, enlarge pragmatic cooperation with China and to push forward the sustained development of bilateral ties in the 21st century, Basescu said.
