President Hu Jintao Sends Sympathy to Typhoon-hit Philippines

On June 23, 2008, Chinese President Hu Jintao sent a message of sympathy to his Philippine counterpart Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in the wake of a deadly typhoon that hit the country. In his message, Hu said he was shocked to learn that a deadly typhoon hit the Philippines, causing heavy casualties and huge property losses. Hu, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, mourned the victims and extended his sincere sympathies to the Philippine government and people. The Chinese president said he believes that, under the leadership of President Arroyo, the Philippine people are sure to overcome the disaster and rebuild their homes.
