Overseas Donations Received by the Chinese Foreign Ministry

Since the massive earthquake hitting Wenchuan, Sichuan, the international community has extended sincere sympathy and condolence and offered various forms of support and assistance to the Chinese government and people. The Chinese foreign ministry and embassies, consulates or diplomatic corps in foreign countries have received donations of RMB1.49 billion from foreign governments, organizations and individuals by June 20, including RMB761 million from foreign governments and international and regional organizations, RMB1.63 million from foreign diplomatic organizations in China and individuals and RMB727 million from foreign civil organizations, businesses and people from all circles of the society as well as overseas Chinese, Chinese students studying abroad and Chinese-funded organizations.

The foreign ministry has transferred the donations to the special account of Wenchuan earthquake disaster relief opened by the Chinese government or to those designated by the donors and informed the donors of the use intention of the fund.
