Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with His Slovenian Counterpart Rupel

On June 10, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with his Slovenian counterpart Dimitrij Rupel in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana.

Yang hailed the sound development of bilateral ties, adding that the frequent high-level exchange of visits between the two countries have injected new momentum for the development of their bilateral ties. Yang said that China is ready to join hands with Slovenia to maintain exchanges at all levels, enhance dialogue and communication and deepen understanding and trust. He also urged both sides to promote balanced development of bilateral trade, strengthen pragmatic cooperation on infrastructure, port and transport, keep closer humanities exchanges and consolidate the social basis of bilateral ties. Both sides should also deepen consultation and cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries, enhance cooperation on international and regional affairs, and especially jointly push forward China-EU relations. Yang also expressed appreciation for Slovenia's efforts to coordinate and promote relations between China and the EU during its EU presidency in the first half of this year.

Rupel made positive comments on EU-China relations. He said EU and Slovenia remain committed to enhancing ties with China and attach importance to China's important role in international and regional affairs. He welcomed China to play a positive role for peace and stability of the Balkan region.
