On June 3, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo met with BBC's World News Editor Jon Williams.

Wu appreciated BBC's efforts in offering all-round reporting on China in recent years and introduced China's quake relief efforts, preparations for the Beijing Olympic Games and the truth of 3.14 riots in Lhasa.

Williams expressed condolences to the victims in the Sichuan earthquake, as well as admiration for the Chinese government's swift, effective relief efforts. He said BBC cherishes cooperation with China, and as UK broadcaster of the Beijing Olympic Games, BBC will actively provide all-round reporting on the games.
