On May 16, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jieyi met with Deputy Secretary?General and Political and Security Director-General Gerard Araud of the Foreign Ministry of France, exchanging views on issues concerning the UN reform, Sudan's Darfur and Myanmar. Both sides agreed that China and France, both permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, should strengthen cooperation on the UN and other international affairs.
